Proxmox Disk Resize VM. Resize Disk Proxmox VM / LVM actions taken to add a hard drive to an OS. Here we will share Documentation how to add a VM Disk (Virtual Machine) on Proxmox without losing data and without having to add a new Disk partition in the LVM Volume group.
Langkah 1: How Resize Disk VM Proxmox
Here we use a VM with Ubuntu 20.04 OS. First look at the VM Disk size via Proxmox Web Gui
Click Target VM > Hardware > On Harddisk
Then login to the Virtual Machine via the CLI Console > See Disk size > Using Command
df -h
The disk size on the root mount is 39G, and then we will add 30G
Still on the Hardware Tab > Click Resize disk > Fill in the Added Disk Size
And after adding / resizing the disk, the total hard disk size will be 70G
Double check using Console CLI > Command
df -hBut when Show Disk via the Console CLI, the disk is still 39G, why is that, this is because the disk that we have added as much as 30G before has not been mounted into the VirtualMachine system. Therefore we will do Extend Disk on the root disk, in the following way:
Step 2: Parted Resize Disk VM Partition
Resize Partition
In the CLI Console > Type Command
parted /dev/sda > Print
It can be seen in the picture above, that the total disk / dev/sda: 75.2GB, while the system is still 40GB. Type Command
resizepart 3 100% > print
Then the Disk has been Mounted Full 100%, for a total of 75GB
Next, exit using Command > quit > df -h
Show Current Phisycal Volume > pvdisplay
Resize Phisycal Volume > pvresize /dev/sda3 > pvdisplay
Proxmox disk volume has been increased, resize on Logical Volume > Type the following command
lvresize --extents +100%FREE --resizefs /dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-ubuntu--lv
Note: for “/dev/mapper/ubuntu–vg-ubuntu–lv” match the Logical Volume on VirtualMachine, can be seen using Command df -h
